The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Ilorin Kwara State, Prof. Abdulkareem Age has described his first year in office as the most challenging of his managerial year thus far.

Prof. Age who was speaking while hosting media practitioners to a media parley and iftar in Ilorin on Saturday.

Age while expressing satisfaction with what he's been able to achieve thus far, "You can never understand a public seat until you're sitting on it. With the benefit of hindsight, he is more versed in human management, balancing diversities and the politics in the office.

"When I came onboard, i faced serious financial headache, we were owing over #800m to cooperatives, assessors were denying our people assessment due to payment arrears.

"I am glad to announce today that Unilorin is totally debt free, we're not owing anybody a dime.

"Our staffs haven't been able to go for annual leave for a while, we hope we'll be able to restore that if we're able to finish second semester on time" he added.

However advised those fortunate to be with leaders at any level to learn to accommodate dissenting advice and rejection of advise given to their principals, adding that only those sitting on the seat can fully grasp the realities.
